Such cooling of the surface layer of water causes opposite directions of air circulation in the atmosphere. These atmospheric changes in air circulation can lead to other changes in weather in various parts of the world.

In particular, the La Niña phenomenon can lead to disrupted atmospheric circulation that does not allow moisture-carrying air masses to reach the West Coast of the United States.

Simply put, moisture-carrying air masses fly anywhere but California. And that's very sad because without moisture there can be no rain, and the absence of moisture in the soil leads to drought.

It's worth noting that the West Coast of the United States, and particularly California, is located in a subtropical climate zone, which is characterized by high dry weather.

If we combine La Niña and California's hot subtropical climate, the result is a severe drought.

But that's not all.

Within California itself, there is an important cause of drought - improper use of land resources.

What does that mean?

Deforestation, which directly affects the climate, is one thing when it comes to green masses that retain moisture in the air, but it's quite another when it comes to agricultural land where moisture evaporates in the heat.

The dried-up riverbeds during drought, when all living things die due to the reduction of water, are just one example of the consequences.

The only thing scarier than it is the forest fires, which occur with a high frequency in California.

Fire destroys absolutely everything in its path even faster than the drying up of water bodies, sparing neither plants, animals, nor humans.

The charred areas of once-green forested areas become deserts under the influence of the dry climate.
